New York Giants Participate in Diversity

A writer from New York City, Sawyer Petrick works in film and television. Outside of his role as a writer, Sawyer Petrick is a fan of the New York Giants.

The New York Giants football team is participating in the NFL’s Diversity in Sports Medicine Pipeline. The initiative is designed to see that medical staff members and leaders working for the NFL reflect the racial and gender composition of the United States. To do this, NFL teams have made an effort to hire and recruit medical staff members from all communities in the US.

The New York Giants welcomed Alexandra Cancio-Bella and Kayla Thomas to work on the sports medicine staff. Both women are medical students attending programs at Howard University, a historically black college and university (HBCU).

The NFL program will install 14 students in medical programs from other HBCUs, such as the Morehouse School of Medicine, Meharry Medical College, and Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. These students will work with teams that include the Atlanta Falcons, the Los Angeles Chargers, the Los Angeles Rams, the San Francisco 49ers, the Washington Commanders, and the Tennessee Titans, in addition to the New York Giants.
